ABOUT
The short follows the story of a young single woman in her late twenties, during three nights and two days. Studying the nature of time and the meaninglessness of life through the loop of daily repetitions, it delves into the continuity between the conscious and the unconscious and the relation of dreams with wish fulfilment.
In her recurring dreams, the protagonist is recruited by a mysterious scientific corporation that tracks her, studying her movements, analysing the compatibility she can have with potential partners, obligating her to find a perfect fit.
Fitting Room is an exploration of singlehood in the contemporary dating-scape, framed under the paradox of choice, between multiple possible suitable matches, within multiple dating apps.
It looks into the personal and collective beliefs and impositions that we can feel to find a partner, aiming to reshape singlehood into a fulfilling destination rather than an anxiety station.
Shot in London between two sets and seven locations, the short is a mix of 16mm and digital, through which Helena Hense and Ali Refaei have gained valuable skills being involved in all the aspects of the production of the short. From the creation of the outfits to the design and construction of the sets, they have been working together as co-directors, co-DOPs, co-producers, co-set designers, co-editors and stylists, and their intention is to keep working alongside each other after their graduation.
